Randolph County Quality of Life
There are dozens of reasons why Randolph County offers a wonderful quality of life. First, the culture here is different and visitors notice it immediately. They see people waving and smiling and striking up a conversation. Respect, courtesy and consideration for others help create a community where people want to live, work and nurture families.
Then there is the natural beauty you'll find in every season. The blaze of autumn. The greens of summer. The multiple colors of spring and the majesty of winter. You can relax on the bluff at Fort Gage and gaze at the confluence of the Grand Kaskaskia and the Mighty Mississippi. Watch riverboats push barge tows larger than football fields up and down the rivers. Observe wildlife in the river flyways, or visit Turkey Bluffs, Baldwin Lake, or the Confluence Heritage Area.
In any season, there is always something to enjoy with your entire family. Like the Popeye Festival and Parade in Chester, the Fall Festival in Coulterville, Eagle Fest at the Lock & Dam, visit the World Shooting & Recreation Complex in Sparta, Holiday Happenings in Red Bud, Octoberfest in Steeleville, music celebrations at Schuline, Fort Kaskaskia and Fort de Chartres, and dozens of activities year round.
Stay healthy with a workout at Chester's Cohen Complex. You'll find a walking/running path, outdoor workout equipment, tennis, soccer, baseball and softball fields. There are community pools in Red Bud and Sparta. Enjoy your day at parks in Red Bud, Steeleville, Sparta, Eden, Tilden, Coulterville, or Evansville. You can hike, fish, and enjoy nature at the Randolph County State Recreation Area.
We acknowledge a higher power as evidenced in the magnificent steeples throughout the community. There are more than 100 churches in Randolph County representing most major faiths. Three outstanding hospitals in Sparta, Red Bud and Chester provide health care.
Our community celebrates youth sports, Future Farmers of America and 4-H and there are award-winning public and private schools. Southwestern Illinois College's Red Bud Campus can jump start your son or daughter's higher education career. Randolph County enjoys a low cost of living, convenient shopping with retail and specialty stores, more than 60 restaurants, and, if you want to visit the big city ... St. Louis, Belleville, Carbondale and Cape Girardeau are about an hour away.
